Workshops

Can’t wait for the next repair cafe to do your repairs? At our soldering workshop, we will teach all the skills necessary for you to be able to do basic soldering work at home.

During this three hour workshop, we’ll build a small audio amplifier. We’ll start with some of the basics of soldering technique and safety. When you’ve done your first soldering work, we will introduce some very basic electronics theory and start building the amplifier. After the workshop, you can bring the amplifier home with you.

What you’ll learn

  • Basic soldering skills
  • How switches, pots and connectors work
  • A very basic understanding of electronics and circuits
  • Basic troubleshooting knowledge and repair skills

What we will provide

  • All the soldering equipment
  • Switches, pots and connectors
  • The components to build the amplifier
  • All the equipment for you to test the amplifier
  • A small snack

How it works

All our workshops have limited available space. We have to be able to prepare the equipment and make sure we have enough soldering irons for everyone to be able to practice. You can only participate after you’ve signed up. You don’t need any experience to take part in the workshop.

During the workshop, you will learn how to make a small amplifier. We’ll be focusing on the knowledge and skills that will help you understand how most (audio) electronics are constructed. The main goals of the workshop are for you to be able to do some very simple repair work and identify what is most likely to go wrong in most consumer electronics. We hope you will have fun learning this!

The workshop will last around 3 hours. After the workshop, you can bring your amplifier home. During the workshop we will have speakers and batteries available for you to test if everything works. To keep our costs down, you will not be able to bring these home afterwards. Usually, it is very easy for you to be able to find speakers at flea markets, in free shops or on the street. We hope you are able to figure out a way to use what capitalism has thrown away for your own needs. The batteries needed for the amplifier are available at most shops.

We ask a small donation to cover costs and for us to be able to buy the equipment needed for future workshops. You can also buy a soldering iron with us to help us develop new workshops and make our workshops available for people who have less money.
